New Pendants!

Last week I learned how to make pendants, and I've been pretty obsessed with turning every awesome picture I find into a little piece of wearable art. The ones below are some examples that are for sale in my shop.

All of the pendants are made with wooden shapes, metallic markers, photos, decoupage glue, and an enamel adhesive that makes a thick, clear coating on the surface of the pendant.

Peonies are my new favourite flowers. I didn't even know what they were until I was planning my wedding. I wanted to have them somewhere, but I got married in March and APPARENTLY peonies don't like to grow in March in Louisiana. Anyway, I found this beautiful picture of a bouquet and decided that it needed to be wearable. HERE IT IS.

I've been pretty into flower motifs lately- anything I can find that's floral is fair game for these pendants. The "heart throb" is a little cheesy but I like it anyway! It reminds me of all those teen magazines I used to read when I was 13 and SO COOL. I won't tell you which artist I was reading them for. It's too embarrassing.

A Peacock's Box

Craft day is, by far, my favourite summer invention. Today Heather, Ashley, and I went to Lafayette's big box craft stores and browsed. I have been trying not to buy crafty things, but when I'm with other craftsy people, I cannot resist. I do not think this is a weakness. Anyhow, I've been getting requests for more blue, so here is my latest, all-new, all-blue earring and necklace set. I may add a bracelet later. WHO KNOWS.

The colour reminds me of a peacock, so I decided to call the piece a Peacock's Jewelry box. The necklace is made up of two strands of turquoise coloured seed beads, and the pendant is a dyed bit of agate that has been dressed up with a silvertone bead cap. I think it is pretty neat looking!

The earrings are hypoallergenic and are exactly like the pendant- silvertone bead cap and dyed agate stone. They match beautifully with the necklace, and the whole set can be dressed up or down.

What is it that you do here, anyway?

I am one of the last people that I know to have a blog. Of course, while I was in high school I had Deadjournal and Livejournal, but those was mostly for whiny, angst ridden scribblings about my life- the word "blog" just sounds so much more sophisticated. I am excited to use this!

I've been making and selling jewelry for a couple of years, but I've gotten a little better at it this summer. I am a teacher, so I have a had a lot of time to burn, and I have used all that extra time for craft days. On these very special (and frequent!) craft days, people come over and we all make things. It is kind of an expensive hobby, but it is SO enjoyable.

I will be using this blog to talk about the highlights of these craft days before they go up for sale in my shop, Sassafrasium Designs @ Etsy. If you are a fan of sparkly things, processes, jewelry, fashion, or fun (or all of the above!), follow me! We can be friends.
